Mining is the core of mid-game progression. This guide covers the most efficient routes for Copper, Iron, and Sulfur to minimize travel time and maximize yield.
1. Early Copper Route (Starter Island)
Before leaving the starter island, locate the two cave icons. Bring a Stone Pickaxe and at least 3 torches. Clear the caves entirely, which should yield about 60-80 Poor Copper Ore. Smelt this immediately to craft your Copper Pickaxe and Weaponsmith.
2. The Foothills Iron Loop
Once you reach the Foothills, Iron Ore becomes your bottleneck. The best route starts at the Southern coast fast travel bell, heading north along the cliff base. You will encounter 4-5 iron deposits. Always bring a Brigantine or larger ship to store the heavy ore, as inventory weight will limit you quickly.
3. Sulfur & Gunpowder Farming
Sulfur spawns near volcanic vents in the Foothills and Cursed Swamps. Combine Sulfur with Ash (from burning wood) at the Alchemy Table to craft Gunpowder. A single run through the Eastern Swamp vents yields enough for ~100 bullets.
